When dealing with people you meet through CrewFile.com or any other online agency, please be VERY careful. DO NOT send any money up-front for "processing fees". DO NOT send copies of your passport. Always do some background searching on the internet. When applying for a job opportunity be suspicious of email addresses supposedly from reputable companies which may start with real company names, but end with "free" hosted accounts for example "live.com", "yahoo.com" or "hotmail.com". The following scams have recently been brought to our attention: 7th January 2009: An email from Captain Johnson Smith with a job offer to work as steward for Bridlington Yacht Club. See this page for more information: DockWalk.com 12th January 2009: A comprehensive list of jobs at Marriott Hotels. Using a contact email address of This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it Not real and a scam without doubt. 20th January 2009: Continual postings with vague descriptions from an alleged representative of oilonline.com to an email address This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it This person is unknown to the owners of oilonline.com and doesn't respond when contacted. 5th February: Postings relating to PRINCESS MARIANA with references to a "Travel Consultant" or "Travel Agent" who can help arrange paperwork. A vacuous scam which appears to be replicated more than once. Email addresses are all live.com. The scam usually attempts to get a "processing fee" for paperwork. 27th February: This month we've disabled automatic posting and are manually vetting new postings. This has effectively eradicated fraudulent entries. For more information on job scams there is information here Met Police Internet Fraud |
