| Description: | Experienced life-long sailor, racing and cruising, Still racing on international level (505). Started professional skippering in 2009. A lull in my shore job encouraged me to follow an old dream. Looking for skipper assignments on 30-60 ft. sailing yachts. Short term preferred, but long term considered. 1st mate position on larger yacht considered, if the emphasis is on performance and fast sailing. My plan is to divide my time between sailing and film directing; but with the right owner and boat, I would consider sailing full-time. Experience Boats professionally skippered 2009: Swan 47: Tromsoe (North Norway) – Cuxhaven (River Elbe - German Bight) (1st Mate). Plus four weeks of late fall North Sea heavy weather training (Skipper). X 412: Skagerrak – Kiel. Beneteau Oceanis 54: Dodecanese Islands. 2010: Grand Soleil 46.3: Adriatic Sea. Grown up in sailing family in Hamburg, on the difficult tidal waters of the Elbe and the North Sea. Lots of sailing also on the Baltic. Classes raced extensively: Laser, Contender, 505, classical Dinghies, X99, IOR, IMS, IMX 38, plus lots more. Member of the University of Hawaii Varsity Sailing Team while in College. Certified air craft mechanic; can take care of engines, hydraulics and the like. Licenses RYA Yacht Master Offshore SRC Short Range Certificate German sailing license SKS (Sportküstenschifferschein) German boating license SBF (Sportbootführerschein) German sailing license BR First Aid (2010) Shore Life and Education FILM DIRECTOR, IMAGEFILM.BIZ, BERLIN & HAMBURG, 1998-TODAY Written and directed commercial and corporate films for German Telekom, Microsoft, Bombardier, Lufthansa, the German Government, to name but a few. Several prestigous awards, also for my short feature films. The people skills I developed in dealing with clients, agencies, producers, film crew and actors had to be first class. Handling guests, owners, and crew on a yacht, I can rely on this extensive experience. PRESS OFFICER, INTERNATIONAL 505 YACHT RACING ASSOCIATION, GERMAN SECTION, 2002-TODAY Due to my involvement in film and television, I was appointed press officer for the International 505 class. I keep close contact to German and International sailing and general sports media, promote events and take care that our sponsors get a bang for their buck. Highlight events included the SAP 2009 Europeans as part of Kiel Week, and the C&C 2005 Worlds at Warnemünde, the biggest 505 event ever with 170 boats and 50th anniversary of the class. I also made a film about the event that was widely praised and acquired by sailing tv channels and websites worldwide. MASTERS DEGREE, UNIVERSITY OF HAMBURG, 1989-1997 English and American Language, literature and culture up to the Master‘s Degree. Emphasis on film and communication. Abroad year at University of Hawaii. Hans- Böckler-Fellowship. Paying my way through college, I worked part-time for the renowned chandlery „Yachtausrüstung Hamburg.“ This included calculating and specifying deck hardware for sailing yachts, sometimes complete refits. AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, LUFTHANSA AG, HAMBURG, 1985-1989 Three years of apprenticeship plus a year in the profession before I left it for university. Thorough training in engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, steel and light metal works. Learned an excellent methodological approach to any kind of machinery, plus the safety philosophy of Germany‘s top airline. ENLISTED, GERMAN NAVY, KIEL, 1984-1985 Served my compulsory time and was honorably discharged an „Able Seaman.“ Extra Skills Languages: German (native) English (excellent, also with nautical terms) Elementary knowledge of French, Spanish and Danish (just enough to get a berth and fuel in any harbor, happy to expand on any of these languages, should the opportunity arise.) Excellent presentation and communication skills: writing, photography, videography, editing, water sports marketing. Can be a great help in promoting or documenting your endeavours, if this is desired. |
