Sailing Experience: 16 May 06 - 16 June 06: St Maarten to Palma de Mallorca delivery: Deckhand. - 4051 nm logged with many night hours - 60ft steel custom build ketch Jan - May 2006: Table Bay and False Bay, South Africa - Deckhand/first mate for races, daysailing, and deliveries. 36-42ft monohulls. March 2006: Cape Town to Durban delivery: Deckhand. - 1000 miles logged. Greatly enjoyed every minute! - Wind speeds of up to 45kns and large waves to contend with along the Wild Coast 07 Nov 05 – 18 Dec 05: Cape Town: RYA Coastal Skipper (Commercially Endorsed) - Studied RYA practical and theory courses straight through from Competent Crew to Coastal Skipper. - Particularly excelled at navigation and theory modules. - Sailed 60nm passages between Langebaan, Cape Town, and Gordon’s Bay areas as skipper and crew. - VHF Licence. Relevant Sailing Skills: - Cooking: Greatly enjoy both cooking and eating and am renowned for my ‘rustic’ dinner parties. - General DIY and sewing: Keen DIY-er since childhood. Resourceful and creative seamstress. - Personality: Fast learner and hard worker. Very adaptable to new situations and demands. Particularly ok with cleaning bilges/heads. Good sense of the absurd. Slightly British sense of humour, but it seems to travel well. Honest, frank, and diligent. Enjoy both leadership and team work situations. - STCW 95: hold my First Aid At Sea and PSSR (Sea Survival) certificate. - Also certified Advanced PADI Open Water diver. My motivation and reasons why I seek a position on a boat as a crew? Ambitions: - Would like to spend some time working on yachts, as delivery, race or cruising crew. - Intend to begin work as a trainee solicitor 21 August 2006 at Herbert Smith LLP, London. Would like to do as much sailing as possible before then! - Am determined to start racing dinghies and yachts once I am back in London. |
