| Description: | Tall Ships Skipper Vacancies Skippers required for the Challenger Fleet between April to September 2009. Employment will be on a daily rate. Skippers are normally rotated on a 4 weeks on 2 weeks off system however some flexibility in this will be required over the summer. All applicants should be well organised, patient and must have the following as a minimum: Yachtmaster Ocean (Commercially Endorsed) Proficiency in Medical Care On Board Ship (or equivalent) Long Range Radio Certificate (GMDSS) RYA Diesel Course Ideally applicants will have experience of: Skippering similar sized yachts Sail training Youth work To apply, please email the Fleet Operations Manager at (john.farndell@tallships.org) and request a Skippers Application Form. Due to the nature of Tall Ships Operations you will be required to undergo a series of checks including but not limited to CRB before any position can be finalised. Note The Tall Ships Youth Trust operates a mixed fleet of a 60m (493GT) square rigged brig Stavros S Niarchos and four 22m (40GT) round the world ex Challenger Business steel yachts operating as the Challenger Fleet. The Trust takes over 3,000 individuals to sea each year on these vessels which follow an intensive schedule 12 months of the year. Life on board is 24/7 and challenging but the Salaried Crew probably have one of the most rewarding jobs in the maritime/sailing world. |
