Med cruise follwed by transatlantic |
| Description: |
I am in the initial stages of planning a couple month cruise of the Med, followed by a transatlantic back to the states. I will probably plan a couple shorter trips in the Med to make sure the crew gets along before the transatlantic. Earliest start will be mid Janurary 2009, lastest start will be early March. The yacht is a 2004 ETAP 39S (unsinkable). I sailed it in the Med for a couple months after commissioning in 2004, then shipped it to the states after hurricane season. The following summer I sailed it back to the Med from Miami, and have sailed it in the Med since (though not nearly as much as I have wanted to). I have added a wind generator, an inverter, storm drogue, storm sails, a genniker, a Raymarine RL 70CRC chartplotter and radar, an autopilot, iridium phone and internet, weather software, 2 EPIRBs, 2 backup GPS, and a Zodiac with outboard. With many trips in the Med and off the coast of Florida, plus a transatlantic, she is a proven offshore yacht. If you are not having fun, you are doing something very, very wrong. I expect responsibility; I expect for all onboard to do their assigned duties to the best of their ability; I expect everyone on board to be kind and respectful to others. Also, a great sense of humor is an absolute must. I usually run shifts of 12 hours on duty and 12 hours off duty when the autopilot is steering, with swapping off someone always monitoring the helm/radar/navigation. I allow responsible drinking when off duty as long as it does not interfere wth your next duty. I spent many years as a fighter pilot in the military, so pretty much nothing riles me or stresses me out. I will pay for all food and supplies while underway. |
